Counselling
Services provides free and confidential services to members of the college
community.
The
staff and counsellors of Humber College seek to provide students with
the support and assistance they require to function effectively as learners,
as members of the college community, and as individuals.
Our
Counselling Services have been developed to assist students to strive
towards achievement of their highest potential.
Our
counsellors are professionally trained and provide a wealth of experience
and knowledge in academic advising, career counselling and mental health
issues.

Academic
Counselling & Success
Academic
Counselling is provided to students who are experiencing difficulties
with their studies. Counselling Services will assist students to identify
their areas of difficulty and develop strategies to improve their performance.
University
Advising is available to students who need assistance in developing
their educational plan.
Some of the
services we provide include:
- Study Skills Workshops which are held at the beginning of each semester
to learn how to write exams, manage your time, improve your concentration

Book for tips on learning
- read the
Anti-Stress Book for tips on coping with stress
- discuss your academic difficulties with a counsellor
- consider Peer Tutoring -
trained student tutors can assist you with your courses
- if you have a disability including a learning disabilty that affects

Career
and Employment Directions
Career counselling
is available to students who are unsure or confused about their academic
and career goals.
Some of the
services we provide in this area include:
Personal
Counselling
Professional
and confidential counselling is provided free of charge in a private
setting. The counsellors work sensitively and respectfully with students
to assist them to identify and resolve their problems/ concerns. When
necessary, counsellors will refer students to appropriate services in
the community.

for Students with Disabilities
- if you have any kind of disability including a learning a learning
disabilty, you might benefit from services designed to assist you with
college. These are described in more detail in the Services
for Students with Disability WebPage.
Appointments
Appointments are available between 9am and 4pm, Monday through Friday.
A limited number of evening appointments are also available.
Appointment
are 50 minutes in length and can be booked with the receptionist. When
available, students may drop in for a 20 minute session with a counsellor.
Priority
is given to enrolled students, whether full or part-time. Students indicating
they are in crisis will be seen immediately.
